One September morning
You stare out the window. It’s raining. Big raindrops are pounding against the window. They slide down the glass leaving their marks behind. On the ground, the rain slowly composes puddles. It’s as if Heaven is mourning. Mourning the many innocent people who lost their lives on that one September morning seven years ago. The morning you lost your wife.
Over and over again you ask yourself: Why? Why did this happen? But you never receive an answer. You never will.
At first, you wanted to scream; you wanted revenge. You wanted your wife to still be alive but you knew you wouldn’t get that. Not in this life. You wanted to follow her but you couldn’t do that. There are people here who need you. All you could do was cry and mourn the woman you loved so much who left you way too early.
It isn’t fair. Why your wife? Why did she have to die? You ask yourself those questions again and again but you have to remember that you will never get an answer to them. You sigh. You can’t change what happened that horrible September morning seven years ago.
You turn around in your bed and wrap your arms around the woman beside you. You place a soft kiss on her hair and whisper “I love you.” And that, you can do. You can’t change what happened but you can change what will happen. And you will do whatever you can to protect her.
No, you can’t change what happened seven years ago but you have accepted what happened and you have moved on. You will never forget your wife. And the woman in your arms, who now turns and places a lazy kiss on your chest, doesn’t want you to.
“You think too much,” she whispers sleepy and places another kiss on your chest. Of course, she knows what topic on your mind because she will never forget what today is. You told her these thoughts once and she understands. When you lost your wife, she lost her friend.
A light chuckle escapes your lips and you run your fingers through her hair because you know that she is right. “I know,” you whisper back.
